Energetics: the broad scientific study of energy, its transformation and its balance within a specific system.

In this project I am investigating the nature of energy through the fluid lens of spacetime and quantum phenomena. My process begins by isolating photographic stills from a moving monitor, an act that mirrors the collapse of a quantum wave function by freezing a singular reality out of a continuous stream of information. These images are the source for this project and my Experiments in Color Abstraction project. In this series I fold and manipulate the photographs, structurally loading the paper to store elastic potential energy and transform a passive image into a tense, three-dimensional object. I have incorporated colored plastic components into this project to cast chromatic shadows through optical wave interference, with light functioning as both the subject of the photograph and a material in the finished work. These works are designed to be shown in groupings that interact with the space they are shown. The number of pieces, the direction of each piece, the position in the grid, and even the shape of the grid are all configurable, and reconfigurable; allowing for near-endless spatial reconfigurations. By resisting a single fixed orientation, the final works exist in a macro-scale superposition—dynamic systems where time, light, and context remain perpetually open to change.
